Battle Creek – Maplewood, MN

Entrance to Battle Creek Dog Park off Lower Afton Road

Battle Creek Park is located in Ramsey County, near the border of St. Paul, southern Maplewood and the western edge of Woodbury. This is a great park for both walking with your dog off leash, and letting them romp around with other dogs. By far this is the busiest dog park in the far east metro. Peak hours here seem to be after work during the week (dare I say 4pm – sunset) and weekends.

You can enter the off leash area from two areas, depending on how much walking you wish to do.
The GPS coordinates are for the closest entrance to the “Official” off leash area, off Lower Afton Road.

  • trash on site: yes
  • trails: yes
  • open area: yes
  • water(lakes/ponds): yes, along the walking paths.
  • fenced: completely along the streets, open everywhere else. Heavy tree cover creates a natural fence along the trails.

The dog park portion of the park is now completely fenced in. There are two or three swamps. There are parking lots on both Upper and Lower Afton Roads. Each parking lot is fairly close to either of the popular open areas with picnic benches. There are some car break-ins in the lot. I am not sure what time of day they are occurring.

Kerry is right, car break ins are a frequent occurrence here, no matter how many other cars are in the lot, or the time of the day – don’t leave valuables – thieves target anything remotely resembling value: backpacks, purses, GPS, iPods. Best bet, empty your car.

Other then that, it is a nice park, with a few trails to walk around.
